The 9/11 Memorial

On a glorious Sunday in New York City, my wife and I had tickets to the 9/11 Memorial. It was quite a moving and inspiring sight.

While walking toward the large park, one can see the Freedom Tower rising above lower Manhattan.

The 9/11 museum is still under construction, but here is a photo of the outside of the building. There are some portions of the fallen World Trade Center Towers visible through the windows.

The two pools marking the footprints of both WTC buildings are the major attractions. I hope the video below gives you a sense of the peaceful yet powerful scene. The names of all who died as in the 9/11 attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania as well as victims of the 1993 WTC bombing are carved into the borders of the two fountains.

This is a "must-see" for anyone in the New York area. Tickets, which must be obtained in advance from the 9/11 Memorial website, are free but donations are requested.

Wow, looks like they did a really nice job. I'd like to get there someday.
