I'm surprised no one has listed this, what I consider the most obvious reason to keep using pagers: As a surgeon I am scrubbed in often for several hours at a time. When I'm on call I am expected to respond to pages. I would rather hand my pager to the circulating RN to respond to calls than my cell phone.

Anon from 7/7/19, thanks for commenting. I agree that the pager is more appropriate for the circulating nurse to hold than your personal cell phone.
